Spring wine dinners @ NU

When?

Monday nights now until Memorial Day.

Who?

Wine makers, importers and fans of the juice along with Matt & Lauren as your hosts.

What?

Welcome reception in the bar at 6pm.  Amazing three course dinner  paired with three amazing wines at 7pm.

How?

Click the "Book Now" buttons below to reserve your spot. $65 per person (+tax & tip) and space is limited. Reservation only. We will happily accommodate food allergies with advance notice.

What is on the menu?

Romann and his team work tirelessly to create amazing dishes that pair specifically with each wine.  This involves tweaking and re-tweaking (and tasting and re-tasting... see the above photo...) up until the day of the event.  Therefore, the menu is a closely guarded secret until the event begins.  But trust us, you'll love it. If you want to attend but have an allergy or aversion, let us know in your reservation and we will happily accommodate (with advance notice).

This will be a night of wine from the breathtaking Colli del Trasimeno DOC in Umbria, Italy.  The vineyards surround lake Trasimeno, along the northern border of Umbria, near Tuscany.  We will be enjoying the wines of Montemeloino  and La Staffa.

The wines of the loire valley with devenish wine

We'll kick off the evening with a beautiful sparkling Vouvray from Domaine François Pinon, before getting down to business with two excellent wines from Domaine Regnier-David, a pioneer in the region regarding organic viticulture.  From the Samur appellation of the Loire Valley, we will taste amazing expressions of both blanc and rouge wines from Domaine Regnier-David.

Ned is back once again to wow us with the wines from Sicilian native, Arriana Occhipinti. In her early 20s, she began making wines in her home area of Vittoria, Sicily. Arriana is a natural wine producer,and we will be sampling three of her wines; the Tami Grillo (a collaboration with fellow winemakers), the SP68 Rosso, and her Occhipinti Siccagno Nero d' Avola.

Fine Wine + Good Times, a ten year odyssey

Northern Union is the realization of a dream that began over ten years ago.  While visiting a friend in Chicago, owners Matt & Lauren Wickert discovered the "perfect dining experience" during an impromptu stop at a Chicago wine bar.  What began as a stop for a pre-dinner drink ended with a night of good wine, excellent food and great conversation.  Since that day they have talked about creating their very own space on the East Coast.  After an enjoyable career in the Pharmaceutical industry, they decided in 2014 to turn the dream into reality.  Knowing that it takes more than just a good concept and a dream to have a successful restaurant and wine bar, Matt & Lauren put together a team of awesome individuals to help them achieve their goal.
 

Executive Chef Romann Dumorne (formerly of 50 Local in Kennebunk, and The White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport) creates amazing small plates and seasonal entrées, crafting most everything in-house.  Bar Manager Tim Yee (formerly of Papagayo, Boston)  helms the craft cocktail program with house-made bitters, mixers and other libations.  Alicia Towns-Franken (former Wine Director at Grill 23 in Boston and now a wine consultant) worked closely with Matt & Lauren to create a wine list that reflects the best styles of wine the world has to offer with a unique blend of little known labels, and some familiar favorites.

Designing the space

We embarked on a re-design project of the existing restaurant space in order to create the right atmosphere for our guests, as well as signal something new had arrived in town.  Since the space was formerly a house, we treated the rooms in kind, creating various dining areas offering completely unique dining experiences.  The entire project was a collaboration with the amazing design firm Magnifico Design.  From the name (which is a take on Maine being the northernmost state in New England, and the Union of food and wine) to the interior design of the space, Magnifico worked closely with Matt & Lauren to turn their dream into a stunning reality.
